Tangibl’s utility engineering and consulting technical team has decades of experience in the utilities sector, with key professionals having worked in both technical and management positions at energy utilities. Our capabilities and experience span the entire capital project life cycle, from project conception and approval through preliminary and detailed engineering, project closeout and commissioning.
Tangibl project managers actively engage with our clients on-site which makes us much easier to work with than our larger, more distant competitors. Our project teams have the right mix of enthusiasm, industry experience, and skill with today’s digital tools to deliver a project in a cost-effective and timely manner.
A transmission owner in the PJM Interconnection needed detailed design services for the reconfiguration of a 69-13kV distribution substation. Twelve (12) 13kV distribution circuits emanated from this substation, parts of which were over fifty years old. The circuits were supplied by indoor metal-clad switchgear in the control house and a relatively recent outdoor walk-in metal-clad switchgear assembly, supplied by three different 69-13kV transformers. The project required circuits to be relocated from existing switchgear to three new outdoor walk-in metal-clad switchgear assemblies.
Tangibl completed a series of design deliverables for the implementation of an advanced 13kV loop scheme for a large distribution utility in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. The purpose of our client’s program was to increase circuit performance as measured by outage and frequency duration by 1) inter-building solid-dielectric vacuum reclosers with single-phase tripping capability in existing 13kV loop circuits, 2) replacing existing oil and vacuum reclosers with the same type and kind as the new reclosers, 3) integrating the protection and control of the loop at the substation utilizing optical fiber, digital microprocessor relays and make-before-break sectionalizing and reclosing schemes.
Tangibl Engineering & Consulting teams have delivered utility projects under both planned and emergent conditions, in a responsive and responsible manner. Asset management and replacement programs often are funded for years at a time, and Tangibl is exceptionally well suited for consistent and repeated delivery of associated engineering and design services.
In one instance for a client whose 115kV circuit breaker had developed a leaking high-voltage bushing, Tangibl prepared an issue-for-construction work package for the breaker replacement in 30 calendar days.
One of our longest-dated assignments has been managing the substation project closeout process which we had originally redesigned and have been administering for over fifteen years.
Tangibl’s Utility Rates Consulting group has developed and managed property records for gas and water utilities, and performed complete depreciation studies on a triennial basis along with annual updates.
